Fancy owning your own Spanish village? This one is up for grabs in northern Spain

If you've ever dreamed of escaping to the Spanish countryside, this property listing might just take things a little further than expected. Instead of buying a cottage with a view, how about buying the whole village?
A tiny hamlet in the province of Ourense, Galicia, has gone on the market for €850,000, offering its future owner not just a handful of homes but an entire slice of rural Spain complete with its own chapel, village shop and even a former medical dispensary.
The sale includes 11 houses spread across around 40,000 square metres of land. Three of the homes are ready to move into, while the others are in need of some modernisation. Between them they boast more than 40 bedrooms and over 20 bathrooms, making this a property that's definitely built on a bigger scale than your average family home.Altogether, the buildings cover more than 2,000 square metres, with the main house accounting for almost a third of that space.
Of course, every proper village needs a few local landmarks and this one doesn't disappoint. Despite its peaceful setting, the estate is said to have good access and is close enough to essential services, meaning it's secluded without being completely cut off from the outside world.The property is being marketed by specialist estate agency Aldeas Abandonadas, which believes the village could begin an exciting new chapter. Suggestions include transforming it into a rural tourism destination, a wellness retreat, a centre for group activities or even a co-housing community where people live together while enjoying their own private homes.
For anyone with a healthy bank balance, a vivid imagination and a love of Spanish village life, opportunities like this don't come along very often. After all, it's not every day you can say you're thinking of buying your own village.
