December 19 to January 6 The Belén de España in San Javier
One of the largest nativity scenes in Spain in the centre of San Javier
The word “monumental” is used to describe many of the nativity scenes which are set up every year in the Region of Murcia, but the one in the Plaza de España in San Javier is arguably more deserving of the adjective than any other on account not only of its plethora of models of local buildings but also of its sheer size.
Occupying an area of over 500 square metres in the open square and containing around 2,000 figures, it is now 58 years since the project started – and still it continues to grow. This year it officially opens on Friday December 19 at 20.00 uwith live music provided by Coco Carmona & The Jazz Missioners, as well as local dignitaries including Councillors.
