De-stress at the fabulous spa and health resorts of the Region of Murcia!
Get away from it all at thermal spa resorts and thalassotherapy centres in the Costa Cálida
Now that the summer holidays are over many of us are getting back into the routine of everyday life, but the Region of Murcia offers plenty of opportunities to get away from it all and de-stress for a couple of days.
It’s not hard: just take a look at some of the places recommended by the regional tourist board to allow yourself to be pampered, including thermal spa resorts and thalassotherapy centres (thalassotherapy being the use of seawater as a form of therapy, including the benefits of marine products and shore climate!
Three health spa resorts where you will lose all sense of time!
The Region of Murcia not only boasts an enviable climate, two seas and the 1,001 tastes of the local gastronomy, it also has some of the finest thermal spa resorts in Spain.
Perhaps the best-known is the Balneario de Archena, a green oasis in the Valley of Ricote not far north of the regional capital. It is located alongside the River Segura as it flows through the town of Archena, and the minerals present in the natural spring water have been shown over the centuries to have excellent curative properties!
In Fortuna, meanwhile, the Balneario de Leana is one of the oldest in Spain. The spa resort dates back to Roman times, but it is known that the water attracted the Greeks and the Iberians even earlier. One of the flagship features of the resort is the Roman spa circuit, which includes hydromassage pools, a bubble volcano, aromatic showers and a steam room to stimulate the senses.
On the other hand, the Balneario Bahía de los Delfines, on the coast between Isla Plana and Puerto de Mazarrón, is perfect for forgetting all about humdrum everyday life. The high mineral content of the waters here gives a feeling of shaking off the effect of gravity, and the wide range of treatments includes many designed specifically to relax and de-stress.
Experience the peace of relaxing sea views along with the sounds of the Mediterranean
There are plenty of spots on the Costa Cálida where the pleasures of the sea are combined with relaxation treatments, guaranteeing a fulfilling environment in which to slow down and unwind!
The Hotel Puerto Juan Montiel Spa y Base Náutica in Águilas is right on the front line of the Mediterranean coast and affords spectacular views out over the sea alongside the Juan Montiel sporting marina. The facilities include a 1,000-square-metre spa resort where you can give a little TLC to both your body and your mind, making your getaway to the coast an unforgettable one.
The Hotel Thalasia Costa de Murcia, situated just a stone’s throw from the Regional Park of the Salt Flats and Dunes of San Pedro del Pinatar, is a modern thalassotherapy centre with a marine spa occupying around 5,000 square metres. The main speciality is thalassotherapy and visitors all agree that the whole experience brings about a definite improvement in their wellbeing and quality of life.
Hotel Entremares, on the Mediterranean shore of La Manga del Mar Menor, features a spa zone with something for everyone, including water jets, a steam bath, a relaxation area and a sauna.
Coming back to San Pedro del Pinatar, Hotel Lodomar is also equipped with a sauna, a Turkish bath, saltwater pools and numerous massage and body wrap treatments.
Close by, in the Lo Pagán area of San Pedro del Pinatar, are the Aguas Salinas tourist apartments, where specialized treatments include chocolate, cherry, wine, pomegranate and seaweed body wraps as well as the famed marine mud baths of the northern end of the Mar Menor. All of these treatments are applied in warm water.
More health and wellbeing centres in the Region can be found on the tourist board website.
