Christmas holidays and final public holidays for 2025 in Murcia
Here’s when schools break up and which towns still have one more festive day off
With Christmas fast approaching, families across the Region of Murcia are getting ready to wind down, finalise travel plans and make the most of the festive season. But before the carols and cava begin in earnest, it helps to know exactly when schools close and what public holidays are left before the year ends.According to the regional Ministry of Education and Vocational Training, all schools and institutes will follow the same Christmas timetable this year. The holidays will run from Wednesday December 24 2025 to Tuesday January 6 2026, both days included, meaning pupils will return to class on Wednesday January 7. The same dates apply to all educational levels: from Early Childhood and Primary to Secondary, Baccalaureate, Vocational and Special Education.
Parents have been encouraged to “check their school’s website or local council pages for any cultural or sporting activities happening before or after the break,” which can be helpful for filling those extra days when routines are more relaxed.
This coordinated calendar is a change from the September start of term, when the different school levels began on separate dates. With all levels now sharing the same festive break, families can look forward to more time together over Christmas and the New Year.
For those not tied to school schedules, the next and final national holiday of 2025 is Christmas Day, falling on Thursday December 25.
However, some residents in the region are in for an extra treat. The municipalities of Blanca, Torre Pacheco and Jumilla will each enjoy Friday December 26 as a local holiday, adding an extra day to the Christmas break. Locals have dubbed it “a legendary long weekend,” with five full days to relax before the new year begins.
As 2025 draws to a close, the Region of Murcia is set for a well-deserved winter break. Whether it’s family get-togethers, a quiet escape, or simply soaking up the festive atmosphere, these final days of the year offer the perfect chance to slow down and enjoy a little seasonal cheer.
