This church was built at the end of the 16th century by the brotherhood of the same name, outside the city walls and opposite the gate known as the Sangre de Cristo. Burial rights were established here for all members of the brotherhood, and there was also a special place of honour for the burial of members of the local nobility.
The church is built in the Renaissance style, with the façade being composed of veined marble quarried in the Sierra de Quipar.
The building was partially desecrated in the 1960s when in a state of near ruin, but the altarpiece and the marble pulpit were preserved, as well as the tableaux representing San Antón and the Virgen del Rosario in the Churchof Santa Maria Magdalena. The circular chapel of the Virgen de las Angustias, much has been conserved in a neighbouring building, and the figure of the Virgen is still paraded through the streets of the town every Easter Friday.
