Caser Residencial expands care offering in Lorca with upgraded psychogeriatric unit
Additional funding will support modernised facilities, greater resident privacy and a focus on active ageing at the Murcia care home
The Caser Residencial Alameda nursing home and centre in
Lorca has announced a significant expansion of its psychogeriatric care provision, increasing capacity from 14 to 19 places. This upgrade has been made possible thanks to a €95,000 investment from the Regional Ministry of Social Policy, Families and Equality, under the regional plan ‘
Más que un Hogar’ (‘More than a Home’).
This funding has enabled not only an increase in care capacity but also substantial improvements to infrastructure, equipment and services at the residence, which currently accommodates almost 150 residents. The aim is to foster greater autonomy, promote active ageing and offer an environment that truly feels like home.

Mayte Martínez, Lorca’s councillor for the Elderly, visited the newly upgraded psychogeriatric unit alongside the councillor for Social Policy, Conchita Ruiz, the territorial director of Caser Residencial South Zone, Arturo Úbeda, and the director of the centre, Paz Campos. Martínez praised the improvements made possible through the funding, which include a remodelled unit and new furnishings designed with resident comfort and dignity in mind.
Councillor Ruiz highlighted the broader objectives of the regional plan, stating, “We are converting the region’s care homes into increasingly comfortable spaces adapted to people’s needs. It is no longer just a matter of offering specialised support, taking into account the personal and clinical history of each resident, but of making them feel at home, surrounded by the comfort and privacy they need.”
In addition to expanding the psychogeriatric unit, the investment has also helped improve the centre’s energy efficiency and created more independent spaces to provide residents with greater privacy. Enhancements include the installation of a comprehensive Wi-Fi network to support digital inclusion, a newly built visiting room to facilitate better family interaction, and redesigned living-dining areas for more intimate and homely experiences.

The ‘Más que un Hogar’ initiative is being rolled out across over 200 residential and day centres for older people and those with disabilities throughout the Region of Murcia. Its core goal is to place resident wellbeing and personal choice at the heart of long-term care services.
Caser Residencial continues to lead by example, demonstrating how thoughtful investment and a person-centred approach can transform traditional care environments into modern, inclusive and nurturing homes.
