Caravaca opens new public park and square on the castle hill
ARCHIVED ARTICLE -
The Plaza de los Armaos de la Vera Cruz is located in the medieval quarter of Caravaca next to the archaeological museum
The Town Hall of Caravaca de la Cruz has completed work to create a small new public park and square, providing a welcome stop on the climb up to the castle and basilica which house the Vera Cruz, the religious relic at the centre of the 2024 Holy Jubilee Year celebrations.
The “Plaza de los Armaos de la Vera Cruz” is located next to the wonderful local archaeological museum, which itself occupies the imposing building of the former church of Nuestra Señora de la Soledad, and the Town Hall has been able to create the square due to the generosity of the Cuevas family, who own the plot. There are plant gardens and seats, as well as a fountain and two ceramic mural designs.
Funding for the 65,000-euro project was aided by Next Generation funds and the “Camino a Caravaca” sustainable tourism initiative.
Further information about Caravaca and the Holy Jubilee Year in 2024 is available from the tourist office (Plaza de España, 7, telephone 968 702424, email turismo@caravacadelacruz.es).
