British ex-crew member wanted over €75,000 luxury yacht theft in Lanzarote marina
Policía Nacional seek international warrant after tracing suspect's rental car on CCTV
Policía Nacional in Arrecife have identified a 49-year-old British man as the main suspect in a €75,000 theft from a luxury yacht at Marina Lanzarote. The raid happened in the early hours of Thursday January 8, when a hooded intruder entered dock H, climbed through a lock and took high-value items like custom fishing rods and top-end foil boards. The US-based owner later offered a social media reward for information to help resolve the case.Officers pieced it together through marina CCTV and town traffic cameras. They spotted the suspect's getaway car with its French plates covered to avoid detection. A later clip showed him removing the cover near Costa Teguise, linking it to a rental ferry from Cádiz the previous day. He stayed nowhere overnight and left Lanzarote within 24 hours.
Further checks confirmed he was a former crew member on that yacht, giving him clear knowledge of its layout and valuables. This inside connection made the theft precise and efficient.
The Policía Nacional have passed their report to the courts and await an international arrest warrant, as the man is thought to currently be in the UK. The investigation continues.
