August 9 The Marie Chouinard Dance Company at the San Javier summer performing arts festival
Magnificat is inspired by the musical piece of the same name composed by JS Bach
The 55th annual Festival of Theatre, Dance and Music in San Javier continues on Saturday 9th August with a performance inspired by Johann Sebastian Bach’s “Magnificat”, taking place in the open-air auditorium of Parque Almansa at 22.30.
Tickets are available online here at 20 euros.
This piece represents a return to centre stage for the Canadian choreographer Marie Chouinard, taking her inspiration from the divine words (in Latin) of the Virgin Mary as she speaks (por sings) with passion, joy and happiness, revelling in her pregnancy.
Chouinard first rose to prominence in 1993 with Le Sacre du Printemps, which was also base don a musical score, this time composed by Igor Stravinsky.
