August 9 Guided visit to the Butterfly Oasis alongside Lorca castle
A morning of varied experiences with a nature walk and a visit to the 15th century synagogue of Lorca!
Among the numerous other attractions of visiting the historic castle of Lorca is this rather unusual and perhaps incongruous one which has recently been added to the range of options, consisting of a tour of the first “Butterfly Oasis” set up by conservationists in the Region of Murcia.
The visit on 9th August also includes a tour of the recently excavated remains of the 15th-century synagogue which thrived at the castle before the Jews were summarily expelled from Spain in 1492, the most complete example of such a building in the whole country.
The tour begins bright and early at 8.30 with the guided walk through the butterfly sanctuary, before admission to the synagogue begins at 11.00, with registration available online here and priced at 14.75 euros for over-13s and 12.75 for younger visitors and those entitled to discounts. Toddlers aged under 4 are admitted free of charge.
A second option includes breakfast at the atmospheric Las Caballerizas restaurant in the castle, to be taken at 10.00 before the synagogue opens, and costs an extra 5 euros per head.
Please note, the visit is held in Spanish only.
