August 9 and 14 The 4,000-year-old settlement of La Bastida by the light of the stars
The Troy of the West hosts astronomy evenings under the night sky
Throughout the summer of 2026 special visits are being held under the light of the moon and stars to the remains of La Bastida, a settlement which was inhabited by the Argaric culture between approximately 2200 and 1500 BC and which has been described as “The Troy of the West” due to its importance in early Western European civilization.
During the visits knowledgeable astronomers Will guide you through some of the stars visible in the summer sky, including the Pole star, various constellations and the myths with which they have become associated over the millennia, all of them clearly visible (weather permitting!) due to the lack of light pollution in the countryside close to Totana.
Registration, which is available online here for 9th August and here for 14th August, is priced at 15 euros (13 euros for children) and participants are asked to arrive at the site (click for map) 15 minutes before the start time of 20.00, and it is anticipated that the visits will last approximately 3 hours. Bring along a snack and drinking water!
Queries should be addressed to the tourist office of Totana (968 418153 weekdays) or by email to reserva@idiarta.es (afternoons and weekends).
