August 2025 The Las Fuentes del Marqués beauty spot in Caravaca welcomes the Wizard of Oz!
Dorothy travels through the wonderland of the Caravaca park on her quest!
Following the huge success of last year’s summer productions of Alice in Wonderland in the beauty spot of Las Fuentes del Marqués, just outside the Holy City of Caravaca de la Cruz, this year a dramatization is being performed of the Wizard of Oz, with the park converted into an extended stage set among the streams and wooded areas of this wonderful green area.
This adaptation of the story is entitled “El Nuevo Mundo de Oz” and combines humour, fantasy and excitement as the tale and Dorothy travels through Las Fuentes del Marqués. As Councillor José Santiago Villa explains, it is based on the classic film made in 1939 (adapted from the novel by L. Frank Baum) but has been adapted for the public over 85 years later, and if last year’s experience is anything to go by will prove a huge hit with both locals and visitors from all over Europe during the summer.
The evening shows begin at 22.00 and are held on 1st and 2nd August, and thereafter only on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays right through until the end of the month. The show begins at 22.00.
It is worth noting that, as actress Lola Salcedo explains, this is a family show designed to encourage reflection on the role of relatives and family members, and also that the design of props and scenery, in the hands of local artist Keke Calvache, has been made as ecological as possible, using recycled materials and respecting the natural environmental balance of Las Fuentes del Marqués while strengthening the narrative of the production.
Tickets are priced at 13.20 euros for adults, 11.00 euros for those aged 6 to 18 and 6..60 euros for those under 6, and are available online here. The maximum audience on any given evening is limited to 130 so book well in advance!
