August 15 Assumption Day procession on land and sea in Los Alcázares
Los Alcázares celebrates the feast day of its official Patron
Assumption Day on 15th August is celebrated in Los Alcázares not just because it’s a national holiday throughout Spain, but also because Our Lady of the Assumption is the official honorary patron of the municipality, and in consequence the town hosts one of various maritime processions on this date every year.
In 2026 the day is marked by Mass in the parish church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción at 18.30, followed an hour later by the procession setting out from the church to the seafront and to the old naval seaplane base. From there the figure of the Virgin is taken out to the Mar Menor on a boat, accompanied by a small flotilla of locals joining in the celebrations.
