August 14 Spanish version of The Two Gentlemen of Verona at the San Javier summer performing arts festival
Los Dos Hidalgos de Verona is a Spanish version of an adaptation of Shalespeare’s work by Declan Donnellan
The 55th annual Festival of Theatre, Dance and Music in San Javier continues on Saturday 9th August with Los Dos Hidalgos de Verona, an adaptation of Shakespeare’s The Two Gentlemen of Verona by Declan Donnellan which has been translated into Spanish and is presented in collaboration with the Compañía Nacional de Teatro Clásico and Lazona.
The performance begins in the open-air auditorium of Parque Almansa at 22.30 and tickets are available online here at 25 euros.
One of the main themes is the play is the question of whether friendship is a kind of love which requires the same degree of commitment, and the drama is seen as marking the beginnings of Shakespeare’s insights into the human condition. Declan Donnellan’s adaptation brings the action to modern times, making the dilemmas faced even more relevant to us today.
