August 12 Free star-gazing night hike to the coves of Bolnuevo

A great way to end Eclipse Day: catch a shooting star as this Bolnuevo walk coincides with the Perseids meteor shower

Of all the meteor showers that occur throughout the year in Spain the Perseids is arguably the most spectacular, largely because no matter where you are in Spain, there is a great chance of seeing shooting 'stars' blaze across the sky.

Popularly known as the 'Tears of Saint Lawrence' in Spain due to the appearance of this incredible phenomenon so close to August 10, the feast day of Saint Lawrence, the Perseid meteor showers are one of the most awaited displays offered by the sky during the summer. The shower is active from mid-July to the end of August but will peak this year between 10^th and 13^th August, and on the 12th, just half an hour after the end of the near-total solar eclipse in the Region of Murcia, a free guided night walk is being held to the coves of the Bolnuevo coastline, complete with stops en route to do as people have always done on these dates: lie on your back and gaze up at the stars!

The 6.5-kilometre route is an easy one but it is scheduled to take around 4 hours (including lengthy stops), and of course as we3l as sturdy footwear, torches and head torches are indispensable. Don't foget spare batteries!

In addition, drinking water will be needed and Nordic walking poles are advised.

Dogs are not permitted.

Under no circumstances will others be allowed to join the tour without having booked beforehand.

The walk begins at 21.00 (participants will be informed of the exact starting point after registration) and  registration can be completed through the tourist office in Puerto de Mazarrón (Plaza Toneleros, telephone 968 594426, email oficinaturismomazarron@gmail.com).
