Hello, and thank you for choosing sanjavier.today to publicise your organisation’s info or event.
San Javier Today is a website set up by Murcia Today specifically for residents of the urbanisation in Southwest Murcia, providing news and information on what’s happening in the local area, which is the largest English-speaking expat area in the Region of Murcia.
When submitting text to be included on San Javier Today, please abide by the following guidelines so we can upload your article as swiftly as possible:
Send an email to editor@spaintodayonline.com or contact@murciatoday.com
Attach the information in a Word Document or Google Doc
Include all relevant points, including:
Who is the organisation running the event?
Where is it happening?
When?
How much does it cost?
Is it necessary to book beforehand, or can people just show up on the day?
…but try not to exceed 300 words
Also attach a photo to illustrate your article, no more than 100kb
August 10 to 17 Annual fiestas in the Sierra Espuña village of Gebas
The mountains of Alhama de Murcia present a week of festivities in Gebas!
Between August 10 and 17 the outlying district of Gebas in the municipality of Alhama de Murcia, which nestles in the foothills of the Sierra Espuña mountain range, is holding its annual fiestas in honour of the Purísima Concepción, with a mixed programme of activities for residents and visitors to enjoy.
All of the activities take place by the little social centre and church, looking out over the valley. The easiest map to follow is that leading to the Mirador of Gebas, which gives views across the Barrancos de Gebas.
Program for the fiestas of Gebas 2025:
Sunday August 10
8.00: “Marcha al Berro”, a guided hike to the neighbouring village of El Berro, starting at the Salón Social in Gebas. The registration cost of 5 euros includes insurance, a sandwich, a cold drink and a small gift, and registration is open until August 4 at diegoandreocrespo@gmail.com or on 619 386295. Payment is by Bizum to the same telephone number.
Thursday August 14
20.00: The official opening ceremony of the fiestas and an exhibition of “ganchillo” embroidery and other arts and crafts. The canteen/bar opens for the weekend.
21.00: The annual migas competition, followed of course by a chance to sample the food prepared!
23.00: Free concert by The Berrock Band.
Midnight: More music from ALP “Alapua Rock”, DJ Diablo de la Cruz and DJ Strats.
Friday August 15, a national holiday in Spain
20.30: The procession of the figure of the patron of Gebas, the Virgen de la Purísima Concopeción, with music from the Agrupación Musical Nuestro Padre Jesús del Amor.
21.00: Holy Mass at the local church with music from Edad de Oro.
22.00: A traditional dinner of bread and ham is provided by the fiestas committee.
23.00: Live music from Atlantis in their “Guitar Legends” show.
Midnight: More music from a guest DJ.
Saturday August 16
18.30: A long evening and night hike from Alhama de Murcia to Gebas organized by ALHAMA COYM. Food is included in the registration price (contact the Alhama tourist office for further details).
19.00: Petanca tournament, registration 15 euros per pair.
23.00: Free concert by Malvariche on their 40th anniversary tour!
00.30: Disco Gebas with a guest DJ.
Sunday August 17
10.00: Breakfast for all, chocolate and buñuelos.
10.30: Bat workshop for children in collaboration with the Regional Park of Sierra Espuña.
12.30: Foam party.
21.00: Neighbourhood dinner, everyone brings food to share with those assembled for the end of the fiestas!
22.00: Prize draws and raffles.
23.00: Live music and dancing from Dúo Acuarela, part of Alhama’s summer “Música en las Pedanías” season.
Midnight: Disco Gebas with a guest DJ.
Children’s activities and bar
From Thursday to Saturday there is a creche and play area for children with workshops run by Animunis, and the Cantina bar opens every day.
