April 26 The Romería of San Marcos in Yecla
Yecla welcomes the spring with a day of merry-making at Cerrico de la Fuente
The annual Romería of San Marcos in Yecla takes place on the Sunday nearest to the feast day of the Saint on 25th April, and is a very popular event as locals celebrate the arrival of warmer spring weather in the Altiplano of northern Murcia.
In 2026 the date falls on 26th April, when a typical “romería” day takes place. The event begins early at Cerrico de la Fuente with a hearty breakfast of gachasmigas. Holy Mass is usually held at around 10.30, with music provided by the Grupo Folclórico Arabí (and, on this occasion, El Niño de Archena and his "cuadrilla" group), and more dancing and music follow prior to the large paella lunch.
The convivial atmosphere continues through the afternoon before party-goers travel the 5 kilometres back to Yecla
If visiting Yecla don’t forget to make sure one of your first ports of call is the tourist office (Plaza Mayor, 1, telephone 968 754104, email turismo@yecla.es).
