April 10 to May 30 Modern art exhibition in Alhama de Murcia
“Personajes de la DANA, Memoria compartida" at the El Pósito venue in Alhama
Running from 10th April to 30th May, this exhibition at the El Pósito venue in Alhama by Antonio García López takes an in-depth look at the effects of memory and the marks left on us by past experiences.
In this particular case the inspiration for the images was the disastrous DANA storm which hit much of Valencia on 29th October 2024, which resulted in at least 238 people losing their lives. The images have been put together using mud from the artist's own home and debris from the devastation of the flooding, all of it in an attempt to settle the traumatic experience and emotions which transformed the collective identity of the population of the area.
The collection of works has grown with every visit made by the artist to towns and villages affected by the extreme weather event, and is intended to stand as a more permanent memorial to the dead than the ephemeral headlines and news stories which dominated the Spanish press in the days after the disaster.
The exhibition can be visited during normal opening hours (Tuesday to Saturday 16.30 to 19.30).
