Águilas Viva: €10.6 million plan to revamp the town for a sustainable future
The grand plan comes under the umbrella of a new Águilas motto: ‘A town that beats, breathes and moves forward’

Shaping the town's future through a model that prioritises quality of life for all, social inclusivity and environmental sustainability: this is the grand vision of ‘Águilas Viva’, a groundbreaking Integrated Action Plan that is transforming the town of Águilas into a thriving, inclusive and competitive hub.
With a budget of 10.6 million euros, Águilas Viva is the culmination of a comprehensive Urban Agenda that has been years in the making. This ambitious plan is divided into two projects, each designed to tackle 7 of the area's most pressing challenges and create a better future for its residents.
"The Águilas Viva Integrated Action Plan (PAI): a town that beats, breathes and moves forward, conceives the area as a living organism that evolves in a sustainable, inclusive and competitive way to face the challenges of the future," highlighted the mayor of the town, Mari Carmen Moreno, this week.
Project 1
The first project is all about giving Águilas a green makeover. The ‘Green Breath’ initiative will revamp the town's iconic Plaza España - Puerto Pesquero axis, creating a lush oasis in the heart of the urban landscape.
In addition, the ‘Urban Heartbeats’ initiative will turn public spaces into dynamic hubs for creativity, innovation and community engagement.
The Archaeological Museum will be remodelled and the
Casa Ruano will be transformed into a thriving cultural centre. And, with a focus on social inclusion, the town will launch programmes to promote job creation, entrepreneurship and social cohesion.
Under the ‘Digital Mind’ banner, the council plans to upgrade its technology and systems, including financial management, online services and cybersecurity, to create a more streamlined, efficient and citizen-centric administration.
Project 2
The second project is all about propelling Águilas into a sustainable future.
The ‘Resilient Soul’ initiative will adapt the town's fairgrounds to the challenges of climate change, harnessing the power of renewable energy and green spaces.
And, with the ‘Active Transit’ initiative, the council will connect the fairgrounds with the rest of the town of Águilas through the construction of an attractive and open environment for the public, by means of the following actions: A single platform to connect Calle Juan Pablo II with the town centre, multimodal high-rise parking at the fairgrounds (two floors), adding 340 spaces, and an access control system for both the car park and the entire municipality, using cameras for the Local Police.
According to the mayor, Águilas Viva is more than just a plan - it's a vision for a better future, a promise to create a town that is sustainable, inclusive and competitive.
