Águilas opens new running path in a boost to walking and hiking tourism
The municipality of Águilas already boasts numerous established hiking routes
El Ayuntamiento de Águilas apuesta por el turismo activo y natural con la construcción de una pista de running conectada a la red de senderos locales
Although the tourist industry in Águilas is of course highly dependent on the numerous beaches which line the coast of the municipality, efforts continue to encourage more year-round tourism and particularly if it involves physical activity and is environmentally sustainable, and this is reflected in the completion of a new 1.36-km running path which connects the Polideportivo Municipal with the green area in the Labradorcico industrial park.
The path is divided into two sections, the first running from Calle Agente Miguel González Sánchez parallel to the RM-D14 road, and the second in a loop`within the industrial park.
In addition, the path intersects with various other longer-established rural tourism routes, including the Sendero del Agua (PR-MU-113). This in turn links with the Sendero del Baladre (PR-MU-112) and the trail to Cuesta de Gos and Los Mayorales (PR-MU-117), thus joining the new route to a wide network appealing to runners, hikers and walkers.
The new path has been financed using EU Next Generation funds and falls under the umbrella of the Sustainable Tourism Plan under the label of “Descubre Águilas”.
