Aguilas bus brings books to the beach
The popular coastal town in Murcia welcomes the return of the ‘Bibliobus’
For another summer, the so-called ‘Bibliobus’ is returning to the little town of
Calabardina near Águilas, bringing more than 60,000 volumes of hardbacks and softbacks, as well as all kinds of information from electronic platforms as a way of promoting access to reading, culture and information.
The Bibliobus project has been running since the summer of 1998, and it aims to extend the area of the bookmobile service to be able to bring the joys of literature and reading a nice book on the beach to the greatest possible number of readers.
Each summer, around 5,000 physical books are taken out of the Bibliobus, with novels being the most popular choice for children, young people and adults.
To take a book out of the Bibliobus mobile library, you just need a Murcia library card – Carné de la Red Regional de Bibliotecas Públicas. If you don’t have one, just present your NIE or residency documents and a library card will be issued to you right then and there.
Borrowed books can be returned to the Bibliobus itself the next time it comes around to visit. Alternatively, you can send them by mail to the Regional Library, Avda. Juan Carlos I, 17 30008 Murcia or take them in person to the Calabardina library at Avda. Costa Cálida, next to Restaurante Pantalán. It is open on Monday July 1, 8, 15, 22, 29 and August 5, 12, 19, 26 from 10am to 1pm.
