5G high-speed internet coming to a town near you as Murcia expands coverage
Thanks to recent rollouts by MasOrange, Telefónica, and Vodafone, rural towns are finally getting high-speed internet

Telecoms in the Region of Murcia are moving fast, and 5G is no longer just for the cities. Thanks to recent rollouts by MasOrange, Telefónica, and Vodafone, even smaller towns and rural communities are starting to enjoy the benefits of high-speed internet.
MasOrange has been leading the latest push, bringing 5G to a dozen towns with fewer than 10,000 residents, including Lorquí, Moratalla, Blanca, Abanilla, Librilla, Pliego, Villanueva del Río Segura, Campos del Río, Albudeite, and Ricote. Even the tiniest towns like Ulea and Ojós, with fewer than 1,000 inhabitants, now have access to faster, more reliable connections. Most towns are seeing coverage above 95%, with just a couple slightly lower, though improvements are on the way.
The jump to 5G means much faster than older 4G connections, allowing you to download films in seconds, enjoy video calls without freezing, and stream high-quality TV without interruptions.
Telefónica has also expanded 5G, now covering 37 towns compared to 28 last year, while Vodafone serves 36 municipalities, focusing on speed and better indoor coverage. This expansion is helping bring more people online and support residents, businesses, and public services across Murcia.
MasOrange says its goal is to drive digital progress in the region, connecting rural areas and helping reduce the digital divide. EU-funded programmes, like Unico-5G Redes Activas, have supported towns such as Albudeite, Blanca, and Ricote, making sure even the smallest communities are included in this 5G push.
