5 tips to help you buy the right air conditioning unit this summer

What you need to know to purchase the correct air con for your home in Spain

5 tips to help you buy the right air conditioning unit this summer
With the arrival of summer, air conditioning units become a necessity for some in Spain. Whether you are updating current units or purchasing new ones, getting what you need can be difficult.

These 5 tips from Air Menor will help you make the right choice for staying cool this summer:

  1. Sustainability – Always read the label: Each air conditioning unit carries an efficiency label. These labels are an indication of their energy saving capabilities. Buying a class A efficient unit will save customers money each month on costly energy bills. In combination with motion sensors and thermostats, that can be controlled through smartphones, the amount spent on energy can be significantly reduced if the right model is purchased.

  2. Energy type – A choice of two: Electric or aerothermal energy powered systems are the market standard for air conditioning units. Aerothermal systems are sustainable and ecological. Extracting up to 75% of their energy from outside atmosphere, aerothermal systems reduce energy consumption drastically. However, electrical systems have the advantage of being more affordable to buy and install. Therefore, electrical systems reduce the initial hit to the wallet, whereas aerothermal systems are more cost efficient over time.

  3. Noise level – Keep it down: Customers do wish for a noisy air conditioning unit to disrupt the tranquillity of a cool room. Therefore, checking the decibel level of a machine is crucial. The ideal noise range for an unobtrusive system is between 16 and 24 decibels.

  4. Cost of cooling – Crunch the numbers: In addition to the upfront cost of the unit and its energy consumption, a calculation is required regarding the cooling capacity of a new unit. Cooling capacity is measured in Frigories, therefore; to know how much power a unit needs a simple bit of maths is required.

    • Room size – Width x Length x Height = Cubic meters of a room.
    • Cubic meters x 50 = Frigories per hour required for cooling the room.

  5. How to stay cool – Aesthetics in the world of air conditioning: It is no secret that many air conditioning units are not always particularly pleasant to the eye. Those wishing to have cool rooms are not usually wishing to have ugly walls. However, with sleek designs forever hitting the market, and air conditioning units now fronting as paintings, the era of ugly blocks upon the wall may very well be over.
