25th Anniversary of the Canonical Coronation of the patron saint of Águilas begins on January 25
The church of San José has been chosen as the venue for the presentation of the events scheduled for the Anniversary
The extensive programme to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Canonical Coronation of the Patron Saint of Águilas is set to begin on January 24. The programme will begin with a talk on the “Historical Advocations in Águilas” by the official chronicler, Juan de Dios Hernández and will finish with a blood donation day on November 25.
The mayor of Águilas, Mari Carmen Moreno, and the councillor for Culture, José Antonio Consentino, are among a few of the officials that have revealed all the details of the program “that includes different and very varied activities and that has a main event on September 27, in which the presence of the bishop of the diocese of Cartagena is planned”.
The presentation event of the programme for the year also serves as a means in which to present three new projects which will be launched coinciding with the anniversary. These three projects are the children's and youth association, the honorary body of Las Damas de la Virgen and the Obra Social Virgen de los Dolores Association.
Furthermore, the officials who have organised this programme would like to thank Águilas Town Council, the General Directorate of Tourism Competitiveness, the parishes of the town and all the people, organisations and institutions that have worked on the 25th Anniversary.
Moreover, It has been pointed out that all the funds raised during the events of this anniversary will be donated to Cáritas Parroquial de San José.
Programme:
- January 24 at 6 p.m. at Catholic Action, talk in Spanish on the “Historical devotions in Águilas” by the official chronicler, Juan de Dios Hernández.
- January 31-February 2 at 7 p.m. in the Parroquia del Carmen, triduum to the Virgin of Sorrows (on the 30th the image will be moved to the Parroquia del Carmen).
- February 2 at 11 a.m. at Acción Católica, painting activity and clay workshop for children.
- February 2 at 7 pm in El Carmen, mass and veneration of pregnant women and newborns. Solidarity collection of school supplies.
- March 5 at 5:30 p.m., at the headquarters of the Brotherhood, presentation of the sweet “Patrona”.
- March 22, charity dinner.
- March 28 at 6 p.m. at Acción Católica, round table on the history of the offering and the feast of the Patron Saint
- From April 3 to 19, at the Casa de Cultura events space, exhibition of the Patron Saint's Trousseau.
- From April 4 to 10, in San José, septenary.
- April 5, in San José, medal blessing ceremony for new members, manolas and children.
- April 10, proclamation and serenade to the Virgin.
- April 11, Black Friday / Friday of Sorrows

- May 9, María Inmaculada School, “Poetry and Music for Mary.”
- May 16, at Acción Católica, talk about the history and conservation of the image of the Patron Saint.
- June 14, in the Auditorium, II Conference of Canonically Crowned Virgins.
- June 18, at the Casino, solidarity snack.
- From July 18 to 27, repeat exhibition.
- July 5, Charity dinner.
- August 22, on the facade of the auditorium, photo projection.
- September 12, Blue Night of the Association of Merchants and Industrialists.
- September 13, talk about advocacy.
- September 15, mass and hand-kissing.
- September 27, solemn mass to commemorate the Coronation.
- October 17, delivery of funds to Caritas.
- November 25, at the María Inmaculada school, blood drive “Donate out of devotion.”
