September 2 Tour of Spain cycle race passes through Los Alcázares

ARCHIVED ARTICLE -

A sporting spectacle and road traffic disruption as the Vuelta a España visits the Region of Murcia

September 2 Tour of Spain cycle race passes through Los AlcázaresTop level cycling comes to Los Alcázares, albeit briefly, on Wednesday 2nd September, when the 11th stage of the 2026 Vuelta a España, one of the sports’ three most important road races along with the Tour de France and the Giro d’Italia, passes through the town.

The stage is being disputed over a 153.8-kiloometre route between Cartagena and Lorca, passing through La Unión, Portmán, Los Belones, Los Nietos, Los Urrutias, Los Alcázares, Torre-Pacheco, Roldán, Balsapintada, Fuente Álamo, Cuevas de Reyllo, Cánovas, Los Canteros, El Paretón, Totana and Aledo. In Los Alcázares it is expected that the riders will enter the town between 14.50 and 15.00 on the N-332 from El Carmolí, before continuing along Avenida de la Libertad, past the Town Hall and turning onto Avenida Muñoz Zambudio as they head out towards Torre Pacheco.

But the spectacle begins long beforehand, at approximately 13.00, when the group of support vehicles and promotional campaigns arrives outside to distribute gifts and mementos to spectators.

Due to the magnitude of the event there will be road closures during the passage of the race through Los Alcázares, so bear this in mind if you’re likely to be in or around the town centre!
