San Javier Today is a website set up by Murcia Today specifically for residents of the urbanisation in Southwest Murcia, providing news and information on what’s happening in the local area, which is the largest English-speaking expat area in the Region of Murcia.

When submitting text to be included on San Javier Today, please abide by the following guidelines so we can upload your article as swiftly as possible:

July 31 Free concert by soprano Pilar Jurado and the OSRM in San JavierThe 55th International Festival of Theatre, Music and Dance in San Javier gets under way on Thursday 31st July with a free concert by soprano Pilar Jurado and the Region of Murcia Symphony Orchestra (OSRM), beginning at 22.00 in the open-air auditorium of Parque Almansa.

The orchestra is conducted by Manuel Hernández-Silva while the repertoire of songs to be performed includes pieces like Casta Diva from Bellini’s opera “Norma” and others from “Turandot”, “Madame Butterfly”, “Carmen”, “Adriana Lecouvreur”, “Rusalka”, “Fausto” and “Porgy And Bess”, among various others. There is also an instrumental interlude with zarzuela music from “La boda de Luis Alonso” by Gerónimo Giménez.

July 31 Free concert by soprano Pilar Jurado and the OSRM in San JavierPilar Jurado has become the first woman to present a premiere of her own work, La Página en Blanco, at the Teatro Real in Madrid, and has composed numerous others for other artists. She has also worked with a Spanish metal band (Mägo de Oz) and performed baroque music with electronic rhythms and fused with elements of bossa nova, jazz and cinema music.

She has worked with many of the most w important orchestras in the world, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Orquesta Nacional de España and the Strasbourg Symphony Orchestra as well as the OSRM.

The festival continues in San Javier until 21st August with a selection of Spanish language dramatic performances (including versions of Shakespeare’s Two Gentlemen of Verona and Tennessee Williams’ A Streetcar Named Desire) , music and dance: for the most interesting on the programme keep your eyes peeled on the “What’s On” listings for San Javier!
